A probably Medieval wooden peg. The peg has a rectangular cuboid head and a tapering shaft. The shaft appears to have a pointed oval cross-section near the point but the survival of the wood may mean this is not an accurate representation of the original shape. There are sections of the cuboid head missing. The finder reported that when the peg was found there appeared to be white metal plates pinned to each of the longer sides of the head. The plates may have had a crown motif. These plates have now disintegrated and flaked off. Dimensions: length: 105.9 mm; width of head: 2…

A cast copper alloy peg of probable Medieval date, perhaps with musical association. It has a polyhedral shaped head with a raised collar and deep circumferential groove at the point where the head joins the shaft. The shaft itself is cylindrical in form but with slight faceting to produce an almost hexagonal section, and tapers very slightly towards a blunt, rounded point. On one side of the shaft approximately a third of the way down is a deep transverse incision that may be the result of poor production or perhaps a later addition. The polyhedral head has extensive decoration that c…

Incomplete cast copper alloy clothes holder peg, with turned knob on the end, circular in plan and section and spherical in profile. The peg is hollow and would have been cast around a sand core to create this shape. Bailey (1993) illustrates a similar example on page 21, No.55, which is dated to the 18th century.
