Copper alloy, painted Tray or Pan. A flat circular Pan with a flat base of thickness 0.6mm with a separately made everted rim with a maximum thickness of 1.3mm, found in several joining fragments. The rim is cast and possibly lathe finished, with a basal flange supporting a beaten copper plate. There were at least two drilled holes of diameter 5mm in the upper part of the rim, possibly to permit the suspension of the object. Incomplete polyphant stone pan handle, sub-triangular in plan and tapering from a rectangular section where it was attached to the flat pan, now missing, to a circular section at the handle terminal, now broken. The handle has been worked into a cylindrical shape with chamfered parallel edges and chiselled edges where the handle flanges outwards to form the base of the pan. Similar samples of polyphant stone (TRURI 1998.32.8) from Polyphant quarry and workings near Lewannick church, close to where this handle was found, show that this was made from local stone, and likely by the sto…

Roman? copper alloy dish, 45mm in diamter and 7mm deep. It consists of a dished circle which has the remmants of three iron attachments equally spaced on the upper surface. It may be a steelyard pan; Richard Knox thinks it is too heavy for a balance pan. The object is in fair condition, is 42mm long, 40mm wide, 10mm thick and weighs 22.27g.
