A Medieval-Post Medieval cast lead alloy keyhole fitting, c.AD 1400-1700. This is the front plate of a keyhole fitting cast as a single piece. The plate is sub-rectangular in plan with fleur-de-lis knops at each end. There is a raised edge to the plate and a stippled central area where the keyhole sits. The wear on this item make it unclear whether this stippling is the remains of more complex decorations. The keyhole itself is an unusual shape. The keyhole has two lobes where the bit would slot in, set at a 90 degree angle, meaning the lock was designed for the key to be inserte…

An incomplete copper alloy mount or fitting, possibly a hooked mount used on a sword belt probably dating from AD 1500-1700, or a furniture fitting, likely to be a keyhole cover of AD 1600 - 1900. It has a flat pointed oval plate with a sideways projecting angular collar with concave sides elongated to a break. It could have extended to a hook or a swivelling rivet for attachment to a keyhole. The front face is bevelled. On the rear, there are patches of corrosion which could be very worn rivets, but these are not clear enough to be certain which is why a keyhole cover seems the more …
