An incomplete Post Medieval pipe clay wig curler dating to c. 1650-1800. About half the object is missing. It is cylindrical in shape with a bulbous terminal and a flattened circular end, stamped with a maker's mark in the form of a serifed letter P.  Measurements: length 45.10mm, diameter at centre 11.55mm, diameter 17.06mm, weight 11.55g. Similar objects on the PAS database include PUBLIC-78CD8E and  HAMP-30DBF4.

The remaining portion of the object is 40.1mm in length, with a shaft off 11.1mm diameter which expands into a bulbous terminal of 16.0mm diameter. The terminal has a flattened tip into which is stamped a maker's mark of WB with a crude crown above.

A complete Post Medieval pipe clay wig curler, dating circa AD 1650-1800. It is cylindrical in form and concave in the middle of its length, with a narrowed centre flaring out towards two bulbous terminals, which taper to flattened circular ends. Half of a hand-formed curler, made of an off white, very slightly creamy buff, fabric, with fine white gritty inclusions, probably from a local fireclay type deposit. The thicker end is slightly uneven, varying from 18.4 to 19.2mm in diameter, but with quite a smooth, slightly domed end. The sides are rather rougher in surface finish with some wipe marks. A complete Post Medieval pipe clay wig curler, c. AD 1650-1800. It is cylindrical with a narrowed centre (9 mm diameter), which then flares out to rounded sections (12.8 mm in diameter) which then taper to flattened circular ends(7.1 mm diameter). On the flat circular faces are stamped initials, possibly 'JB' surmounted by a simple crown. In between initials and crown is a further stamped detail, probably either a pellet or mullet. Incomplete fragment of a pipe clay wig curler of late Post Medieval to Modern date (1600-1800 AD). The wig curler is cylindrical in form, demonstrating a bulbous circular end, with the terminal end flattened; a slight triangular indentation is present on this end. Approximately 50% of the wig curler is present and there is no evidence for makers' marks / stamps. The break is old and patinated. The wig curler fragment measures 31.1mm length, maximum diameter 11.4mm, minimum diameter 8.1mm, weight 4.52 grams.

A complete post medieval pipe clay wig curler. It is cylindrical a narrowed centre (14.0mm diameter), which then flares out to rounded sections (19.5mm in diameter) which then taper to flattened circular ends(11.5mm diameter). On the flat circular face are the same stamped initials (W.B) but on one end the b has only been lightly stamped and has now almost worn away. The curler is cream with patches of orange discolouration. It measures 75mm in length and weighs 25.72g. This style of wig curler dates from the 17th to 18th century AD.

An incomplete pipe-clay wig curler of post-medieval to modern date. The wig curler is cylindrical in plan with a bulbous end which tapers towards an old and worn break. Roughly 40% of the whole object remains and no maker marks are present. The pipe-clay is a light brownish-white colour and survives in good condition. The curler is 34.8mm long, 16.7mm in diameter at the bulbous end and weighs 9.3g. Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database in WAW-AB3EE7 and SF-A2ECE1.
