Copper alloy lozenge frame probably a medieval brooch of 13the or 14th century date The cast frame is complete but any pin is missing and is of open lozenge form (22.0mm x 22.5mm and weighing 2.3g). Each corner of the frame is defined by a prominent spherical knop (4mm diameter). The frame is of rectangular section (2.2mm – 2.9mm wide and 1.8mm thick). The front of the frame was decorated with a central groove, crudely executed in parts but now largely eroded through corrosion. The rear of the frame is flat and is not decorated. The lozenge frame is difficult to identify…

Bent solid cast bar. C shaped. Originally straight. Circular section.5 attachment loops projecting from bottom of bar. Truncated at both ends. No central rove, etc, possibly drawstring bag frame. Light green uniform surface. Undecorated.
