Lead and copper alloy weight. Cast plano-convex oval or coffee-bean-shaped object with an embedded longitudinal copper alloy strip [of length 17.7mm and width 1.3mm] which appears on both the flat and convex or keeled sides of the object. There is the suspicion of a basal rim, which might be apt to a piece for a board game, as kindly suggested by the finder. Patinated. The neat and vulvate appearance might point to a Roman date. The flat base would permit use as a standing weight with a balance, possibly representing one quarter uncia. Inset objects are more usually associated with Vik…

A discoid, cast lead artefact, probably a weight of uncertain date, Medieval to Post-Medieval, or an ingot. It is a circular disc of lead, thicker on one side. The top face is smooth and slightly concave. The sides and base are rougher, probably from being cast in sand. It is 30mm in diameter and 10.7mm thick. It weighs 65.9g. The mass does not easily equate to any standard system of weight measurement, so it is probably a bespoke weight or lead that has been melted into a makeshift ingot for ease of storage. It has a grey patina.

Lead possible weight. Cast heater-shield-shaped plate with an indistinct symmetrical motif on its display side, possibly a lis or a crowned motif; patinated. The finder kindly suggests an identification as a pilgrim badge. The quasi-heraldic form, and perhaps the charge as well were it clearer, might both associate this with the 14th-century English vogue for heraldic motifs, which might be worn or carried by those with no noble connection or pretension. There is no apparent means of attachment. The mass equates to about one half of an averdepois ounce, thus respecting a system introdu…
