A lead weight possibly of Roman date, perhaps from a steelyard. The weight is ovoid or egg-shaped and has a circular perforation through it from top to bottom (of 4.2mm diameter) which could have housed an iron suspension loop. It has a mass of 32.8g and is 22.2mm long and 17.4mm diameter (aprox 1/10th of a Libra). There is no need for a steelyard weight to conform to a specific weight. Steelyard weights of this form have been found in Roman contexts, but it could also be of later date.
