An incomplete lead alloy token or cloth or alnage seal probably post medieval date c.1700 – 1800. The object consists of two remaining sections, most likely from a four-part seal. The front design is of a Trident, that occupies the whole of the diameter of the seal. The prongs come out of a triangular base, with the outer prongs each curving outward to the rim of the seal The reverse is undecorated, and there is the remnant of the linking appendage. The surface has a mid-grey patina, with pale cream corrosion. Diameter: 23.17 mm; Thickness: 3.33 mm; Weight: 9.20g For token wi…

A complete lead cast token of an unknown date. it is broadly circular in plan with an irregular projection. The upper surface is flat in plan, the reverse side is covered in a mottled corrosion product. The token is 22.8mm in diameter, 3.1mm thick, and weighs 5.74 grams. Undecorated lead discs had a wide variety of uses including as weights, tickets and gaming tokens. They are believed to be locally produced for a local use. The plain nature of these objects makes their intended purpose and dating difficult to ascertain. Similar objects have been found in contexts from the …

A complete possible Medieval to Modern lead alloy bifacial possible token, dating uncertain. It is apparently a cast disc with apparently random largely linear patterns on both faces and a central pellet on one of them . The edge of the token is bevelled.  There is very little or no wear . Dimensons: 21.9mm in diameter; 4mm thick; 11.77g in weight. This find does not seem to conform to any of the Powell (2010) Classification types. A copper alloy large circular coin or token. The coin is the right size for a Roman sestertius, with a diameter of 27.6 mm and thickness of 4.1mm. It is not a milled coin and it is quite regular, but both obverse and reverse of the object are worn and indiscernible, preventing dating it with any certainty. However, an irregular square with a cross through it has been scratched and over-scratched onto one face, suggesting re-use as a gaming token, a positive date for which is also very difficult to determine.

A sub-square to disc shaped artefact that resembles a token of Medieval to early Post-Medieval date. It weighs 5.38g, measures 17.4mm x 16.9mm with a maximum thickness of 5.1mm. The object appears to be made mainly from lead or lead-alloy. The edges thicken to one side of the artefact's surface and the area within has a browner hue. Use of a magnet produces a strong reaction to both sides of the object. This confirms that the browner area is a patch of iron. It is uncertain whether the presence of this iron metal is by design, if so the purpose is unclear, or accidentally present. No …

Lead alloy possible token. A probably cast disc with linear patterns and a central boss [of diameter 2mm] on either side. Chipped. Straight and curving, define rectangular and triangular fields which might, with the eye of faith, represent the elevation views of distant buildings. Or runes. This may be a modern forgery made with the intention to deceive, of which scores have been collected in the vicinity. These usually resemble either Iron Age or Early Medieval coins, and were perhaps distributed by metal detectorists over land where access to detect has been contested. A 'mint' in t…

A possible coin or token not identified further. It has raised markings on both sides that are not clear, but could be ships. John Naylor commented that the object is not early medieval, and is probably not a coin. It may be that it is some form of token, possibly a eastern European or central Asian issue Thickness 2.21mm, diameter 13.47mm, weight 1.7g.

Lead alloy token. Cast uniface disc with a moulded radial design, possibly in the form of a cross fleury, with rays in each of its angles; both the cross arms and the rays are bifurcated at their ends. While objects of this type are usually ascribed to the 17th century, and to a use as tallies, the cross might admit an earlier date and a function as a dole token issued by a religious house. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1350-1700 Diameter (long axis): 15.9mm, Thickness: 3.4mm, Weight: 3.60gms

Lead or Lead alloy token or coin folded in half, of uncertain date. The object is semi-circular, being folded over and flattened, with a slightly raised border of about 5mm in thickness around the rounded edges. There are also two thin impressed lines within the raised border, each about 1mm away from either edge. The centre of the object appears to have been decorated with impressed dots, although the object is corroded and the details are unclear.

A lead artefact of unknown date, probably used as a token but possibly as a weight for weighing things. The object is sub-circular in shape measuring 21.7mm x 21.2mm and weighs 11.97g (0.42oz). It has a maximum thickness of 4.4mm. This artefact seems to be unifaced, having one decorated face and one which appears to probably be undecorated. The potentially undecorated surface has subtle concentric circles but this is most likely to be the result of production rather than an intentional design. The edges of the disc are quite irregular but have a generally convex curve. The design o…

Either a single lead token, struck off centre or more likely, two lead tokens that have been fused together each flan partially off-set from the other. For the sake of this record this/these tokens will be described as two separate but now joined artefacts. The combined weight of the two flans is 5.27g and for each the visible surface is decorated with moulded curvilinear relief lines. The partial inner surfaces of the over-lapping flans have no visible decoration, although it cannot be confirmed whether these tokens were definitely uniface artefacts. One of the tokens has a fla…
