An incomplete medieval Anglo-Gallic "black money" billon (base silver) denier of Richard II as Duke of Aquitaine (1377-1399), Elias 229. Ref: Elias 1984: 204. The coin is in poor condition, corroded and incomplete, missing part of the outer circle. There are also three small holes/splits in the flan around the inner circle. Obverse; cross with lys and leopards alternately in the quarters, + [R]ICARD RX [AnGLIE FR]ACIE. Reverse: cross pattee, +DO[mINVS ]AQVITAnIE.  This coin is the first Anglo-Gallic issue of Richard II to be recorded by the PAS

Base silver coin of Elizabeth I, Irish issue with Arms of England on the obverse and a harp on the reverse, dated 1602, the metal clearly appears to be very base silver and not the copper of the pennies (which were dated) so presumably this coin was intended as a debased threepence but struck using dies intended for the penny, 1602.
