The base of a small circular Roman seal box dating to ~100-400AD. Andrews type C2. The remains of a double lugged hinge projects from one edge with a small notch in the rim which would have been in the centre of the hinge, and another two notches in the rim at 90 degrees each side of the hinge. The base has four holes, three arranged in a triangular shape with a forth hole in the centre. The three holes forming the triangle are slightly larger and elongated compared to the central hole which is completely circular and may indicate signs of wear. Andrews fig 69 shows how the …

A Roman copper alloy seal box lid, circular in shape and dished in paln. It has four holes in it, spaced in no particular pattern. On one side is a hinge, and on the other a catch. There is likely to have been enamel decoration on this but none remains. Examples on the database include NLM-3CE2C4 and OXON-471F96, and are dated to 1st to 3rd centuries AD.  Dimensions: it is 28mm long and 18mm wide, 5mm high and weighs 3.7g

An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman seal box, comprising of only the base. It is rectangular, with a 5mm raised lip running around the inner edge and the remains of a double lug on one of the short sides. The lugs each show evidence of a hole through which a transverse pin would have formed a hinging point for the missing lid. Although corroded, the raised lip shows evidence of a rectangular notch on the each of the long sides to accommodate the binding string. A copper alloy Roman seal box lid, rhomboid in shape with cross-hatching of twenty-five lozenge-shaped cells for enamel. Remnants of light blue enamel survive in most of the cells. The underside of the lid has a shallow rim. The fastenings are lost although some suggestion of their shape remain.

An incomplete copper-alloy enamelled Seal Box lid of Roman date. The object is teardrop (piriform, leaf shaped) in shape .It has a rounded end and narrows to a point at the opposite end. The rounded end has the remains of a hinge narrowing down to a point at the terminal. One face is flat and plain. The other face is decorated with a raised border which follows the outline of the object. Within the border is a raised line which forms a heart shaped recessed cell. Cast copper alloy Roman seal box lid, lozenge-shaped in plan with cross-hatching of twenty-five lozenge-shaped cells for enamel. Some light blue-green enamel survives in a few of the cells. The four corners of the lozenge shape have knops projecting from them which are now worn. These knops would have originally fitted into notches in the base half of the seal box. A damaged Roman copper-alloy seal box lid. The remaining piece of the lid is in a diamond shape, starting from the edge, both sides expand to an approximate 45 degree angle and reflect on the opposite side. The surface of the lid is decorated with a floral-like design, perhaps a flower petal or a spade shape from a pack of cards, with cobalt blue enamel filling the gaps between the design. An incomplete copper-alloy circular seal box lid of Roman date. It is missing half of the suspension loop and lip due to old breaks, now worn. It is flat. At the top is the triangular remains of a hinge set at an angle of 90 degrees to the plane of the lid. The perimiter is decorated with a series of grooves. The base of a Roman copper-alloy seal box. It is rectangular and tray like (Andrews Type S), with sides that come up from the edge of the base at right angles. A Roman incomplete cast copper-alloy circular seal box consisting of the shallow convex lid only; dating to the period c. AD 100 - 300. The seal box can be classified as Crummy's Type 2.
