A conical coper-alloy Roman object, most likely a plumb bob. It is in mostly complete condition but is missing its lug or loop for suspension. It finds parallels in a plumb bob weight from South Shields (Allason-Jones and Miket, 1984: no. 3.477) as well as a mount recorded through the PAS (LIN-E94F54).

Six lead pendant weights of probable Medieval date (AD 1200-1550). All are damaged and their suspension loops are broken off .Each object has four roughly equal flattened tapering "sides" with "shoulders" at about half the length and a rounded pointed end. The metal is a grey/cream/brown in colour with a slightly coarse patina. Several functions, including plumb bobs and net sinkers, for such pendent weights have been suggested (Egan 1998, pp. 310-311). Whilst it has been noted elsewhere on the database that their chronology may span the medieval to post-medieval periods (LV…

Four lead pendant weights of probable Medieval date (AD 1200-1550). Three of the objects have an oval bulbous end and tapering sides to the upper end which has a single perforation which forms the suspension loop. One of these three similar objects has a damaged and incomplete suspension loop. The fourth weight has been formed in a different way, with one long side being flat and the two other sides meeting at a ridge along its length. The suspension loop is just a round hole at one end The metal is a grey/cream/brown in colour with a slightly coarse patina. Several function…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of possible Roman date (AD 43 - 410), probably a plumb bob or weight. It is conical in form with a two single circumferential grooves, one close to the wider end and one close to the tip. From the centre of the wider end extends an integrally cast cylindrical shaft that has been partially flattened and is possibly missing its tip due to old breaks. The shaft has the remains of a crudely incised transverse groove. The entire object has a worn dark green patina with some patches of active copper-alloy corrosive products. It measures 23mm in length,…
