A probable Late Mesolithic microlith, scalene triangular in shape with an acute angle toward the distal tip which forms a sharp point. It appears to have a micro burin notch at the proximal tip, which seems to indicate the removal of a micro burin at this point. The microlith is made from translucent, almost transparent, grey mottled flint and the dorsal face has knap lines with ridging. The microlith has short, scaled, abrupt retouching on two edges of the dorsal face and possible very short intermittent abrupt retouching on the third edge of the dorsal face. The v…

Description: The blade is buff/grey in colour and rectangular in shape, and thin/translucent with a notch to the corner at the opposite end to the bulb of percussion on the ventral face, which also has ripple marks. The long edge on the thicker side is 4.32mm thick and consists of whitish colour cortex with grey flecks. There are flaking scars on the dorsal face. There is abrupt, short, subparallel retouching along the long thin edge, which is .98mm thick at the point, including the short end and the notch…

A Mesolithic microlith / blade / bladelet (7,000 to 4,000 BC), grey in colour. This piece is sub-rectilinear in plan and sub-rectilinear in section, tapering to a point at the distal end. The dorsal face comprises 3 main facets, whilst the ventral face is virtually featureless, save a faint bulb of percussion detectable when felt. One edge displays possible irregular hardhammer retouch, however this could also be due to plough damage. Both the proximal and distal ends show signs of being deliberately snapped This piece weighs 0.25 grams, measuring 12mm in length, 6mm in width and 2…

An incomplete struck / knapped flint Group A microlith/blade dating from the early Mesolithic, approximately 9000 BC to 6500 BC. The flint is a mottled honey colour, opaque and with little patination. The microlith is sub-rectangular in plan and triangular in section. The flint is a tertiary flake. The proximal end appears to have been snapped, removing the bulb of percussion. There is very fine short abrupt sub parallel retouch on the distal left edge (and possibly further along this edge) and also on the proximal right edge.

A microlith worked trasversely from a blade of translucent brown flint. Although the snap appears simple it has been well controlled successfully twice without the notching of the microburin technique to make a short wedge of flint with two opposing blunt sides and a sharp free blade on the others. Unlike a similar wedge found nearby it has no retouch on the corners but the shorter of these sharp edges defines where it was hafted. It may have had another tool use but looks like the simplest type of micro-tranchet arrowhead. This site is good for microliths and this particular spot for …

A microlith worked from a blade of translucent brown flint. The blunted back is crescent in plan but the possibly last one third is broken away. The other lateral edge is a free blade to the convergent tip which is also broken. The tool may have been hafted but it is possible to use it as a knife if the fingers are not cold. This site is good for microliths and was likely the edge of wetlands in Mesolithic times. Chris Butler in 'Prehistoric Flintwork' illustrates a similar example on page 93, fig. 35, 14 as a Clark type D although being broken it is not certain. The examples at Cl…
