A cast copper-alloy with a high lead content mace head. Incomplete as there would be three rows of this, one above and one below. This mace head consists of a hollow cylindrical shaft with two rows of knobs. Worn at the bottom where it has been used. Split in half from a four sides knob. Would have been used on a wooden pole most likely. (It is alike Object ID: ESS-8974231)

Approximately half of a broken, unfinished sandstone mace head or perforated 'pebble hammer', of the Neolithic or Bronze Age, semi-circular in plan, sub-oval in profile and oval in section. Made from a greywacke sandstone beach cobble from the Crackington Formation dating from of the Upper Carboniferous age (332 to 290 million years BP). A fragment of a cream flint mace-head. Most of the shape can be inferred from the remaining exterior surface except for the exact shape of the butt and hence length, but it seems to be egg shaped in plan and of the 'ovoid A' type(Roe,F.1968). The top and bottom surfaces are flat and parallel with all but the last traces of flake scars (2 visible) ground out. Medieval copper alloy hollow-cast knobbed mace head of 11th to 14th century date The mace-head appears to be complete (with a height of 39.7mm and a weight of 194.0g). There does not appear to have been a collar or shaft extending from the base and there is no perforation for an attachment rivet on the mace. The shaft-hole perforation is sub-circular (with a diameter at the base of 13.7mm - 16.0mm and a diameter at the apex of 17.2mm -18.7mm).
