A medieval, lead alloy eyelet mount, probably dating to the 14th-15th century. The mount is of flat, sexfoil design, with a central hole (3mm dia.) and integral flanged rivet moulded on the reverse. The following is taken from reference: 'These were mainly used as surrounds for buckle pin holes in straps or lace holes in other items, although some may have been purely decorative. They were presumably attached whilst the leather was temporarily softened, perhaps by steam or by boiling.' A Medieval copper alloy sheet eyelet in sexfoil shape with central hole, used as reinforcements for a buckle pin hole, dating AD1350-1400. It is dome shaped with a hollow back with six evenly shaped facets radiating from the centre. It has two holes for separately cast circular rivets. Dimensions: diameter: 13.38mm; thickness: 2.61mm; weight: 0.49g Similar examples on the database are SUSS-1EF0A7 but many have been recorded as a mount see BUC-E971F9, LVPL-C7E807. Egan and Pritchard (1993) illustrate very similar eyelets in situ on an archers leather wrist guard fig.143(p.229)…

Post medieval cast copper-alloy eyelet or mount of probable 16th or 17th century date. It is broadly circular with a maximum diameter of 13.5mm, and has a square 5.5mm aperture in the centre. The front has a raised starburst design with ribs radiating out from the central hole. The outer edge is scalloped with the rounded ends of the raised ribs projecting out slightly beyond the indented areas.
