Copper alloy Medieval three-part folding clasp with attached plate. Trapezoidal frame with upright rectangular cross-section strip and transverse rotating end plate. The bar mount attached to the folding end plate is missing. The non-recessed undecorated clasp plate is folded back on itself laterally around the frame. Contained within the two faces of the plate are the remnants of the fabric strap that have been preserved, presumably by the copper corrosion compounds from the plate. A copper-alloy folding strap clasp dating to the Medieval period c. AD 1270 - 1500. The front / outer edge of the buckle frame has a folding sheet metal clasp, while its back end has a strip of folded strap plate made of copper-alloy sheet. A single rivet holds the two halves of the plate together. The combination of all three has a length of 32.52 mm, which is in fair condition. A pointed projection is present at the centre of the leading edge, as similarly seen on the example in WHITEHEAD, R. 2003 Buckles: 1250-1880, p.41, no.239.

A complete early Post Medieval cast copper alloy eye from a two-piece blunt hooked clothing fastener, (Read Class A, Type 8) dating c. AD 1600-1700. This is half of a two-piece clothes fastener. The centre /middle of the piece is a roughly square, flat casting measuring 14.94mm x 11.82mm, with a thickness of 1.4mm. An incomplete Medieval copper alloy folding rectangular strap clasp. The frame sides are slightly convex, with a transverse ridge near each corner. The clasp retains part of the rotating end, which has an incised zig-zag pattern and terminates in an old break. The clasp also retains part of the plate, which terminates in an old break at a rivet hole. There are traces of strap material between the two halves of the plate, probably wool. The clasp has a smooth dark green patina, which has been eroded in places. Length: 17.2mm. Width 13.3mm. Thickness: 3.0mm. Weight: 1.12g.

A late Medieval copper alloy three part folding clasp with plate, dating to AD 1300-1450. The clasp has a rectangular frame and a single folded sheet plate with a single rivet hole where it would have secured both sides around a belt or strap. Instead of a pin to attach the other end of a strap, the clasp has a 'folding closure' forming a rotating end with bar mount held in place by two rivets. A machine pressed copper-alloy shoe or pouch clasp section, dating from the Post-Medieval period AD 1714 - 1830. It is rectangular in shape with one end squared, and the other end rounded. Each end has a hook which has been formed by bending the tip of the end backwards. Copper alloy strap fitting. A D-shaped single loop frame with a slightly offset and narrowed strap bar, measuring 22.1mm in length and 23.5mm wide. The closure and plate are missing and the item is worn with only part of the original surface remaining - where present this has a well-developed dark green patina. Similar to no 233 in Whitehead which is described as a strap clasp, and dated to c.1300 - 1450.
