The bowl is circular in plan and has a straight rim and the sides taper below the bowl to about half the rim diameter, and with a raised collar near its base. The bowl has a diameter of 25.84mm. but this varies as the bowl appears to have been turned so that the central part between the decoration has a inwardly curved profile and at the rim is 24.5mm diameter. There are two grooves 2mm apart, 8.5mm from the top of…

A socket from a cast copper alloy late medieval candlestick. The socket tapers slightly and is decorated with three bands of circumferential rings. Below the socket, the stem narrows and then opens out into a moulding. In the base of the moulding is the broken remains of the bar, which has a diameter of 7.17 mm, and would have attached the socket to the base of the candlestick. The external diameter of the socket is 29.95 mm at the top and 14.35 mm and the bottom, the surviving length of the object is 54.03 mm and the weight is 62.0 g.

The object is a candlestick socket. The socket is tubular, it is circular in section, and has straight sides. The upper rim is slightly abraded. The base of the socket, in profile is triangular, or conical, however the base of the socket is missing, instead there is narrowed circular hole with a broken edge. This broken edge is not a recent break. The exterior of the socket is decorated with fine horizontal grooves, there are a pair in the centre, a pair below the rim and one above the base. An incomplete stem from a late Medieval, copper-alloy candlestick. The stem is hollow and broken just above a moulded, circumferential collar. Below this collar the stem flares out to form a flat base. A further, short length of stem issues from the centre of the base and would have served as a spigot to attach the stem through a hole in the base of the candlestick. This spigot has been peened over to secure it under the base. The base and the remainder of the stem and holder are missing. Comparable candlesticks can be seen in Egan, The Medieval Household, pages 136-139.
