A copper-alloy core from a plated gold Iron Age stater of the North Eastern Region / Catuvellauni, probably South Ferriby type, dating to the period c.50-20 BC. Obverse: Wreath, cloak, and crescents. Reverse: A six spoked wheel and horse of uncertain form. The reverse has extensive wear, as well as what appears to be deliberate defacing in the form of multiple short linear strokes or scratches/chisel marks that have removed the horse motif and any legend that may originally have existed.
