A worn, rolled and damaged lithic implement, identified as a Palaeolithic flint axe by the finder. The condition of the object, along with the fact that it is not truly bifacial, makes this identification questionable. The axe is roughly oval is plan and in cross-section, with flakes taken off both dorsal and ventral surfaces. There is some damage around the edge exposing a fresh mid-grey coloured flint. The surface has a reddish-brown patina.

A cast-copper alloy bar. The bar is circular in cross-section, elongated with both ends slightly flared. Each end is flat. The bar has a mid-green patina, complete and does not look worn. The bar is undiagnostic regarding its date and function. This object was found in association with Bronze Age, Iron Age and early Roman material, including four other terret rings, as listed below. The terret rings and the bar were recorded under the Treasure Act (2006 T187) but were declared 'not treasure' due to a lack of evidence to relate them together. The assemblage as a whole howeve…

A lead weight . The object is conical in form with a flattenned base tapering to a point at the apex. There are deep score marks accross the surface which may have occurred during use or burial. The tapered point at the apex may represent the remains of an iron loop used to suspend the weight. It is not possible to establish a date for this object, as weights of this kind have been in use from the medieval period onwards. The weight has a uniform white patina accross the surface.

A possible sword guard or quillon. The object is made from cast copper alloy and consists of a rectangular aperture with two prongs projecting obliquely from one edge with a semicircular protrusion at their base and a notch on the opposite edge of the aperture. There were originally short, flat, rectangular metal projections from each of the short edges of the aperture, though one of these has broken away and been lost. The width of the aperture is approximately 30mm, suggesting that if this is a guard, it belonged to a sword rather than a dagger. The object may be medieval or post …

A cast lead disc, possibly a token or counter. The object is oval in shape and extremely worn. Most lead tokens are decorated with crudely moulded motifs on one or both faces. On one face of this example are vestigal traces of a pellets, while the other side appears to be blank. The lack of distinguishing features makes this object difficult to date, and it may be of the Medival or Post Medieval period. The token is in poor condition-wear and corrosion have caused thinning of the metal, which is splitting at the edges, and some deformation has occurred, probably after burial. Many o…
