A complete cast copper-alloy medieval buckle dating to 13th-14th century AD. Cassels buckle type 1.3J. Meols Type 10. The buckle is oval and convex with two rounded outward-angled projections on the outside edge. Between the two knops the outside edge has moulded decoration of four raised circumferential bands spaced equally. The frame has an offset bar and at both ends of the bar is a globular projection. The strap end is rectangular in cross-section and form, terminating with circular plates with a copper-alloy circular cross-sectioned rivet passed through the plates. There are surviving leather fragments and traces of gilding. A medieval silver cut farthing of William I of Scotland (1165-1214) or posthumous, Short Cross and Stars phase B dating to c.AD1205-30 (Spink S5029), moneyer: Hue Walter, mint: uncertain. Ref: Spink 2020: p.14.
