A thirty pence coin issued in May AD 1690 by James II to finance his abortive campaigns against William III; this type of coin is widely known as 'gun money' because of its base metal (copper alloy) composition. Obverse:- Portrait of James II facing left, beaded border at rim. Legend around 'IACOBVS II DEI GRATIA'. Reverse:- A crown and crossed sceptres, the denomination 'XXX' and date '1690' above. A close parallel seems to be SWYOR-B55B81, "a Paisa of Gwalior State, Gwalior Fort mint, struck in the name of the Mughal Emperor Muhammad Akbar II, during the reign of Maharaja Daulat Rao Scindia (1796-1825)". It is common to find Indian coins in Britain, probably because they were brought here by people serving in the colonial Empire in India.
