An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative, Harlow double-lug brooch dating to AD 43-100. The lower part of the bow, and the pin are missing. The wings survive to a width of 13.3mm and they are each made of crescent plates, that have been flattened and taper to a point. Both wings are undecorated. A D-shaped attachment lug projects from the centre of the wings and the back of the head. A complete Early Medieval copper alloy strap end dating from AD 750 - 950. It is a Trewhiddle style strap end of Thomas sub-type A1ai. The strap end has a zoomorphic closed end in the form of an animal snout. There are crescentic eyes and large looped ears. The main body of the strap end has a billeted outer border, then inside that a plain border. The rectangular panel contains a Trewhiddle style beast. It is probably a single right facing animal with its head towards the split end. The reverse is undecorated. Dimensions: length 31.8mm, Width 12.4mm, Thickness 4.4mm, Weight 2.46g.

A complete coper alloy toy cannon of post mediaeval date (1600-1700). Cast in one piece with a tapering cascabel and spherical button. The base, vent and muzzle rings are in relief. There is a drilled touch hole 2mm in diameter. A second broad reinforcing ring encircles the barrel where two circular trunnions project from the barrel. A cast copper alloy buckle tongue/ chape, dating between AD 1660-1720. The tongue/ chape is sub-triangular in shape and mostly flat in section. The artefact forks/ divides into two cylindrical sectioned casings to the left and right where the pin connects the tongue/ chape to the main frame of the buckle. A complete single loop D-shaped buckle of medieval date (Meols type 2) dating c. AD 1200-1350. The frame has a D shaped cross section and a narrowed and offset bar. The copper alloy wrap around pin survives attached to the bar and tapers to a point. The object has no decoration and has a green patina. Measurements: Length 14.2mm, Width 12.9mm, Thickness 3.2mm, Weight 1.46g. This fits into Meols type 2, simple ovals with offset bars, a similar example can be found in Whitehead’s Buckles (2003, 19) no.59

The discoidal button has a shallow concave obverse, with a central pit and two chevrons formed from voided bands of addorsed triangles and the other two angles, radiate and oblique lines. The reverse has an integral voided trapezoidal central shank. A similar example can be found in Brian Read’s Metal Buttons c.900BC – c.AD1700, p.17, fig. 45. The handle consists of a rounded collar, atop of which is a lozenge shaped suspension loop with a circular perforation. The die has a worn incised design and inscription, possibly a bird in the centre. A fragment of a Roman copper alloy cable twisted bracelet dating to c.AD 300-450. The fragment is oval in section consists of three pieces of copper alloy wire tightly twisted together. A one end, the band is broken and the three wires are broken at different points which helps to demonstrate how they are twisted together.
