A fragment of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy gouge (1150 - 800 BC). The gouge consists of a semi-circular shaped blade tip. It is possible that this gouge was socketed, however there is no indication of a socket remaining. The blade is C-shaped in cross-section throughout its length and concave, with the hollow of the blade increasing towards the cutting-edge. The sides of the blade are slightly trapezoidal expanding towards the cutting edge which is rounded. The break is irregular and the reverse of the gouge is rounded. The gouge measures 32.3 mm in length, 15.6&…

A fragment from a cast copper alloy spearhead, or possibly arrowhead, of Bronze Age date (c.1500-800 cal BC). The fragment is made of part of the blade that has been truncated by a transverse break just before its spear tip and another ragged break further down its body. The blade edge is pitted and corroded with breaks so that it is not possible to determine its original dimensions. The fragment has a circular mid rib that is hollow down its centre. It has a medium green patina. The fragment is 38.5mm long, 21.9mm wide, 9.84mm thick and weighs 16.6 grams This fragment is too incomp…

A fragment from a cast copper-alloy socketed axe, probably of the South Eastern type, dating to the Late Bronze Age c.1000-800 BC.  The sub-triangular fragment is from the side upper body containing part of the expanded socket rim and the securing loop below and displays casting seams indicating a two piece mould. General thickness varies between 1.9mm and 2.1mm with the socket rim measuring 4.3mm. The surface displays a fairly even green patina. Height 43.1mm, width 22.7mm > 11.3mm and weight 20.7g.

The arrowhead is socketed and leaf shaped with a central ridge running down the length. The ridge is circular in section. A section of the socket is missing. The socket has what appears to be black carbonised wood, possibly the remains of the arrow shaft. The arrowhead has a light green patina. Meseurments: 28.59mm length, 11.47mm width; 5.74mm thick. It weighs 4.09 gm. There are f…

Late Neolithic/early Bronze Age c.3000 - c.1500 BC 'thumbnail' scraper. Although scrapers are fairly ubiquitous, the retouch looks invasive and penetrates deeply into the body of the scraper. The scraper has retouch on c.75% of its circular shape and brown is a molted grey and white colour. The base of the scraper is relatively flat with slight ripples indicative of a soft hammered flake. A strike platform is vistable.  Length: 15.07mm, Width: 16.42mm, Thickness at its thickest point: 4mm. Weight: 1.24g.

A fragment of a copper alloy, possibly from a 'bun' ingot of late bronze age date, c. 1150-600 BC. The form is plano-convex in cross-section and it is suggested it represents a fragment of a discoidal ingot, the curved outside edge surviving. The breaks are extremely worn with occasional small rounded voids; the side edges concave with wear. The plano-convex discoid form possibly suggests the production in a bowl furnace rather than a mould. The ingot is pitted along the outside edge of the convex face, likely due to a mix of im…

A possible fragment of a cast copper alloy Bronze Age blade. The fragment consists of a short tapering full-width segment, broken transversely at either end. There is no mid-rib and its small size is more suggestive of a smaller weapon such as a dagger, but this does rather depend on how far down the blade the section belongs. Other than its classic lenticular cross-section, and patina commensurate with the possible age, it lacks all of its diagnostic features; consequently, the classification cannot be further confirmed or refined. Rough mi…
