Post Medieval silver coin, a 1 Vintém, probably of of João V of Portugal. A Vintém is equal to 20 Reis. The lack of legends makes them hard to date precisely. It probably dates from c1734 to c1750 AD. The diameter is 13mm and the weight 0.63g. Obverse shows an armillary sphere with diagonal band. Reverse shows a cross with a smaller cross in each quadrant.

A contemporary copy of an 18th century silver Portuguese coin; probably a 200 reis coin of Ioannes V dating from 1706 - 1750. The coin is crudely cast in lead and there is a bend and crack in the flan. The reverse of the coin is almost worn smooth. Measurements; diameter 27.7mm, thickness 2.8mm, weight 14.58g. Obverse: IOANNES V D G PORT ET [ALG] REX. Crowned arms of Portugal flanked by four rosettes on the right, and illegible markings on the right as viewed. Reverse [IN HOC] SIG[NO VINCES].
