An incomplete and very heavily clipped post-medieval gold 1-Escudo coin of Queen Joanna of Castile (AD 1504-1555) and Aragon (AD 1516-1555)—known historically as Queen Joanna the Mad—and King Charles I of Spain (AD 1516-1556), eventually Emperor Charles V, king of Germany and Italy (AD 1519-1556). The coin would have been minted between AD 1516-1556; however, because of the clipping no mint mark remains.
Obverse: The central Cross of Jerusalem remains, with some elements of the quatrefoil with inverted leaf terminals visible.
