An incomplete Early Medieval silver coin; a penny of Aethelraed II (AD 978 - 1016). First hand reverse type depicting the Hand of God flanked by alpha and omega (probably Variety 1) and dating from about AD 979 - 985. See North number 766, and compare YORYM-91F4B0. The mint and moneyer are mainly illegible; the moneyer's name probably ended in STAN. Only part of the edge of the coin survives, so the legend is only visible between 5o'clock and 8 o'clock on the obverse. The coin is also bent. It is 16mm long, 16.8mm wide and 0.9mm thick. 0.68g.

About half of the edge is missing, making the mint and moneyer difficult to identify. The coin is 18.8mm long, 15.7mm wide and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.63g. For reference see North number 766, (Figure 1).
