Complete milled Irish copper alloy halfpenny coin issued by George III with Laur. and Cuir. bust facing right (type 1a) dating to 1776 or 1779 cf. Spink 6612. The coin was struck in London and only the obverse is legible as the reverse is very corroded and worn meaning that the exact date of issue is not identifiable. Obverse has bust of George III with well-defined double peaks of laureate projecting from the top of the head which is absent on other types. Obverse legend 'GEORGIVS. III REX' (no stop after rex). Diameter 26.2mm, thickness 1.52mm, weight 5.04g.
