A Post Medieval copper alloy Irish 'gun money' shilling of James II (AD 1685 - 1691), Dublin or Limerick mint, dated May 1690. The coin is 28.2mm in diameter, 1.9mm thick and weighs 7.01g. A copper alloy Irish coin; a 'Gunmoney' halfcrown of James II (AD 1685 - AD 1691), dating from AD 1689. The reverse depicts crossed sceptres behind a double arched crown, with 'J' to left of crown and 'R' to right, 1689 and XXX (mark of value) above and the month indicated below, but sadly illegible. See Spink (2003) Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, page 168, number 6579A - 6579LL. The coin is 32.3mm diameter, 2.5mm thick and 11.29g.
