A broken and incomplete post medieval gold half pound of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), 'Second Issue' (1561-82; North 1994; Spink 2520B), mint: Tower (London), initial mark: castle dating AD1570-72. Ref: North 1991: 134; Spink 2016: 260.
Obverse: Crowned bust left (ear showing), ELIZABE[TH DG ]ANG FR ET HI REGINA.
Reverse: Crown over shield of arms, ER to right and left, SCVTVM[FIDEI PR]OTEGE[T] EAM.
The flan is broken or torn into several pieces, probably due to recent contact with farm machinery, at least one piece remains missing. The surface of the coin is scratched and some details are worn and indistinct.
