Silver penny of Richard II (1377-1399). Class 1a. Mint York. Dated to c.AD 1380s. Obverse crowned bust facing, lis or cross on breast and a bifoliate crown. Inscription [RICAR]DVS REX [ANGL] and two crosses in legend after Ricardus. Reverse Long Cross with three pellets in each quadrant, inscription CIVI/TAS [ ]/[ ] and a worn quatrefoil in the centre of the cross. The reverse has been double struck. Both inscriptions partially clipped. Weight 1.17g, diameter 16.79mm, thickness 0.61mm.
