A Post Medieval copy of a base silver shilling of Elizabeth I, issued in Ireland. Third (base) coinage, c. AD 1601-1602. Mint mark illegible. Obverse depicts a square-topped royal shield; reverse depicts a crowned harp. Both legends illegible due to severe breakage and wear. Cf. Spink 2003, 'Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands', p. 152, no. 6507.
Although this series is composed of base silver, in addition to the base silver it is possible to see a copper-alloy core to this coin, suggesting perhaps that this should be considered a contemporary copy of an already base issue.
