A worn, clipped, Medieval silver Venetian Soldino (Middle) or 'Galley Halfpenny' of Doge Nicolo Marcello (AD 1473-74). Minted in Venice between 1473-1474.
Measurements: Diameter: 12.8mm; Thickness: 0.5mm; weight: 0.28g.
Discussion: The silver soldino of Venice was known as the galyhalpens (galley-halfpence) as it was brought by the annual Venetian trading fleets. The soldino was about the size of English halfpennies and was popular because of a contemporary lack of small change.
