A post-Medieval copper alloy farthing token of Charles I (1625-49), Rose type (North 2287-93), not further defined. Ref: North 1991: 165. The coin is very worn and corroded resulting in few diagnostic features remaining. The sceptres crossed through a crown can be seen on one side (obverse) and a rose on the other (reverse). Charles I reigned from 1625 - 1649 AD, when he was executed, and a Commonwealth established in lieu of a Monarchy. Dimensions: Weight: 0.62g Max.diameter: 13mm

The inscription is very worn, visible is CAROLV D G The reverse bears a single arched crown above a single rose. The inscription reads FRA E[…]HI REX, ending with a crescent privy mark. Three badly corroded post medieval rose farthings of Charles I, dating to 1636-1644, from the same location but found across a 200m wide area. The two smaller examples (12.5mm, 0.41g & 13.1mm, 0.69g) has single arched crowns and are of North's Type 2 (number 2291), the larger (14mm, 1g) has a double arched crown and is of North's Type 1 (number 2290). No initial marks are visible.
