A post-medieval silver penny coin of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), second coinage, (1561-82). It has a plain cross mint mark which dates it to 1578. Slightly clipped but mostly legible - ovoid 13.97mm by 11.83mm diameter. Obverse: E D G SINE SPINA. Crowned bust left. Reverse: CIVITAS LONDON. Square shield on long cross fourchee dividing the legend .Weighs .35g. Reference: North 1991, page 134 no. 2001.
