A complete (although slightly clipped) struck/ hammered silver three-halfpence of Elizabeth I, minted in London as part of the Second Issue of Coinage, between AD 1572 - 1574 (diameter: 16mm; thickness: 0.3mm; weight: 0.7g). Initial mark: acorn. The coin is in a worn but fair condition. Ref: North, J, J, 1991, 'English Hammered Coinage Volume 2: Edward I to Charles II 1272 - 1662', page 135, ref no 2000.

An unusual gold coloured post medieval coin. In appearance, this is a post medieval three-halfpence coin of Elizabeth I, minted in London. The mintmark is an eglantine and the coin date is 157(3). This coin is only listed as being minted in silver but this example appears to have been gilded or coloured gold. Barrie Cook of the British Museum says: "Shakespeare mentions 'gilded twopences', whereby halfgroats could pass muster as half-crowns if you didn't look too closely.
