An incomplete silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (AD 1558 to AD 1603), dating to the period AD 1580s. Issued as part of the second or third coinage issues between AD 1561 and AD 1603. Mintmark unclear. But date can be partially read as [ ]58[ ], indicating that it was struck between 1580 and 1589. Minted at the Tower of London. Coin has been cut into a quarter, with legends mostly clipped off. C.f. North vol 2, p134, no 1997 or p137, no 2015. Length: 13.4 mm Width: 10.2 mm Thickness: 0.8 mm Weight: 0.5 g

Reverse: shield with the royal coat of arms, all divided by a long cross, with date above (1567) and legend around POSVI DEV.'AD IVTOR[E M]'MEV. The bust has lost almost all detail. Diameter: 25.0mm, weight: 2.5grams.
