Third period dating to the period 1551-1553. I.m Escallop. Tower mint. North (1991) no.1945.
This coin is very worn, particularly on the obverse, and has been clipped, so that the legend and obverse are very unclear. It is 16.4mm in diameter and 0.5mm thick. It weighs 0.7g.
Obverse: Double rose. but very worn [EDG] ROS[A SINE SPIN]A. Initial mark escallop.
Reverse: square shield on cross fourchee. Legend: CIVI/TAS/LON/DON. Mint mark escallop.

An incomplete post-medieval silver base penny of Edward VI, dating to the period AD 1547-1549. It is from the third period, showing the Tudor Rose on the obverse and the reverse depicts a long cross fourchee over a royal shield. North 1945, London mint. (North, JJ, 1980, English Hammered Coinage Volume II, Spink & Son, London, p124, no.1945.)
There are two holes in the coin, on the obverse one is almost in the centre of the rose (measuring 1.68mm diameter), whilst the other is considerably smaller in diameter (measuring 0.69mm in diameter), and is at about 4 o clock.
