A very worn, silver Post Medieval groat of Edward VI (AD 1547-1553) and minted AD 1552-1553. Third Period. Pierced mullet initial mark. Minted in York. There is a short tear (c. 5.00mm) at 3 o'clock and a longer tear (c. 11.85mm) around 8 o'clock that corresponds to a forward bend from 8 o'clock to half past 1 on the obverse.
Obverse description: Crowned bust facing with rose to the left of the head and VI to the right.
Obverse inscription: EDWARD VI D G AGL FRA [Z] HIB REX.
Reverse description: Long cross fourchee over shield.
