An incomplete, clipped, post-medieval silver hammered half groat of King Henry VIII (AD 1509-1547), a posthumous example issued under Edward VI (AD 1547-1553) dating c. 1547 - 1551. As North (1991) no: 1881. Coin is fragile with a crack where it has been bent across the flan. The double pellet stops suggest this is a posthumous issue.
It measures 18.9mm in diameter, 1.26mm in thickness, and weighs 0.74g.

The coin has a large chip on its edge on the left when looking at the bust and a small section has broken off opposite this, along a probable crack as the break is patinated.

I have examined a coin reported found near Chichester. The coin is a half-groat (2-pence) in the name of Henry VIII, but struck in the early part of Edward VI's reign, 1547-51, at the Southwark mint. Although single coins are not normally eligible for consideration under the terms of the Treasure Act, coins converted into jewellery are so eligible. This coin has been pierced, more or less aligned with the king's portrait on the obverse, and also, it appears, has been gilded.
