An incomplete Medieval silver halfpenny of Edward IV (AD 1461-1479; 1471-1483). Unclear initial mark. Struck under Archbishop George Neville and dating to AD 1465-1472. Mint of York. See North (1991) pg. 88, 94. Much of the outer edges of the coin appear to have been clipped, particularly from 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock on the obverse. There is a slight tear in the coin around 1 o'clock on the obverse, with part of the edge of the coin from 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock having been bent slightly backwards. Narrow voided cross not divided, ends clipped away. Three pellets in each quarter surrounded by a thin solid circle. Inscription around that too worn & clipped away to be legible. Probably letter B in centre of reverse. 14mm surviving diameter. Less than 1mm thick. Weighs 0.64g.

The obverse shows a crowned facing bust of the king with wedged drapery and single-arched crown. The name and titles around the circumference are unclear. There are no marks by the bust therefore it is possibly a type 2. the reverse shows a long cross dividing the inscription with three pellets in each quadrant; there are no extra pellets.
