A Medieval silver coin: a halfpenny of Richard II, second period, London mint, dating from AD 1377 - 1399. It is 14mm in diameter and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.57g. Reference: North, 1991, volume 2, page 63, number 1331a, but with lombardic Ns on the reverse. See also Withers (2005) Halfpennies and Farthings; Edward III and Richard II, type 1b(iii) on page 47 with an annulet on the breast.

A halfpenny of Richard II (1377-1399) type Ibii, minted in London in the 1380s. Richard was deposed by Henry of Bolingbroke, who himself then became Henry IV. Obverse:- Bust of Richard facing outwards, crowned and surrounded by a beaded border. Legend around 'RICARD REX ANGL'. There is a single saltire stop between D and R and a double saltire stop between X and A, and a comma contraction mark after L. Reverse:- Cross with three pellets in each crutch, beaded border separating surrounding legend 'CIVITAS LONDON'
