A medieval silver coin, probably a clipped penny of Edward IV, first reign, Heavy coinage (1461-64) minted at Durham using local dies. The initial mark is a cross fleury. There are saltire stops in the obverse legend. There is a small extra pellet in two quarters of the reverse, under CIVI and DVN. A coin with these features has not been identified in the usual coin catalogues, but sometimes local unofficial dies were used at provincial mints which produced crude coins with unusual features of which this may be an example. The coin is similar to North number 1543 and 1544.
