Medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Series G, type a/d mule, 1356-1361 AD, North 1189/1190. About 10% is missing from one edge. See SUSS-53867 for a similar, complete coin. North indicates that 1189/1190 are only know as mules with the obverse of type 1189 (with annulet stops) and reverse of 1190 (with saltire stops). The spelling mistake in the reverse legend was identified by R L Kenyon who lists this coin as Type 2 of the quarter nobles of 1351-60 (R L Kenyon, 1884, The Gold Coins of England). Weighs 1.68gms \ 25.91grains.

Medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage, Series G, type a/d mule, 1356-1361 AD, North 1189/1190. North indicates that 1189/1190 are only know as mules with the obverse of type 1189 (with annulet stops) and reverse of 1190 (with saltire stops). The spelling mistake in the reverse legend was identified by R L Kenyon who lists this coin as Type 2 of the quarter nobles of 1351-60 (R L Kenyon, 1884, The Gold Coins of England). The obverse has been struck with a rusty die.

This coin is unusual in that there is a spelling error on both legends. The obverse legend reads: EDWAR D G REX ANGL Z FRAE D hYB, rather than FRANC D hYB. The reverse legend reads: EXALTABITVR IN GLLORIA, rather than GLORIA. Cf. PAS database record: HAMP-14B7B8.

There is a spelling error in the reverse legend which reads: EXALTABITVR annulet IN GNLORIA. The erroneous letter is not clear and may be a backwards F (et). Medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage (Pre-Treaty Period), Series G type Ga/Gd mule, dating AD1356-61 (North 1189/1190), mint: London. Ref: North 1991: 52. The coin is slightly chipped around parts of the edge and is lightly clipped removing the tops of some lettering and creates an irreularly shaped edge to parts of the coin. The reverse includes an odd spelling, reading EXALTABITVR IN GALhORI instead of the standard EXALTABITVR IN GLORIA, a rarely seen variation (Potter 1963: 128).

A gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377) dated to the pre-treaty period AD 1351-61. A more precise identification cannot be achieved due to the wear and condition of the coin. The external edge of the flan is feathered and the edge is folded. A pentangular shaped hole is present through the centre of the coin. The edges are slightly clipped.
