A worn, complete Medieval short cross penny of John to Henry III (1199-1271 AD). Possibly North and Wren Types 6c1, based upon Lombardic style of letter 'C', remaining pelleted hair curls, crown and annulet eyes. Class 6 types of coinage date from c. 1209-1217; if this coin can be attributed to Type 6c1, it dates more specifically to c. 1215-1216, to the end of John's reign or the very beginning of Henry III. Cf. North 1994 Vol I, No. 976/1, p222.
Obverse: Crowned ruler facing with annulet eyes, large pellets in crown and two curls on each side.
