An Early Medieval silver penny of Archbishop Wulfred (AD 805-832), dating c. AD 810. This is a group II, transitional monogram type coin. The obverse depicts a tonsured bust facing within inner circle. The inscription reads [WULFREDI AR]CHIEPI[SCOPI]. The reverse has the monogram of DOROBERNIA in the centre. The inscription reads SAE[BERHT] MONETA, indicating Saeberht as the moneyer. The coin would have been minted in Canterbury. North Volume I (1980, no. 240). An incomplete silver penny of Wulfred, Archbishop of Canterbury (AD 805-832). This coin is a classified as North Group II, no. 240 and was probably struck in AD c.810 (see North, 1980, p. 53). The coin is slightly worn and corroded. It measures 19.3mm in diameter, 0.7mm thick and weighs 1.05g.
