A worn silver Iron Age unit of the Kent Region / Cantiaci, struck in the name Solidus (c.40-43 AD). SOLIDV type. Obverse: SOLIDV on plain field, chain border. Reverse: Standing figure left, holding staff. As ABC, p.45 no. 474; VA 2073; BMC 1894-95. Measurements: Diameter 12.98mm, thickness1.57mm and weight 1.19g. Discussion: Rudd suggests that Solidus may have been a place name, or maritime stronghold of Cunobelinus of Kent. Although it is also possible that Solidus was a king who ruled briefly on behalf of Cunobelinus.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy Iron Age Flat Linear potin of the Cantiaci, c.115-100 BC, of Holman type B4/2-1 (D. Holman, pers. comm.). The obverse depicts a stylised head of Apollo left. The reverse has a bull butting right with exergual line below. The remains of a casting sprue are visible at top and bottom of the flan, of which approximately one third is missing. As Holman, 2016 ('A new classification system for the Flat Linear potin coinage', BNJ 86, 2016: pp. 1-67): pp. 25-26, 45, 57, Type B4/2-1, possibly dating to c.115-100 BC (Holman, 2016: p. 11).

The remains of a casting sprue are visible on one edge, and there is a circular perforation towards the base of the potin when viewed from the obverse, which is likely to be the result of manufacture or the casting process although a deliberate and later perforation cannot be ruled out entirely. Measurements: 20.39mm at widest point with sprue, 16.63mm in diameter, 3.6mm thick and 3.62g in weight. Discussion: Thurrock / Kent Primary potins are closely linked to continental examples and a number of the sub-types classified as Thurrock or Kent Primary types may be continental rather than of the Cantiaci.
