Incomplete medieval copper alloy purse bar of Williams 2018 Class A1. The rounded central boss, flanked by animal heads, is engraved on both faces with an irregular double-strand saltire inlaid with niello. The looped part of the swivelling loop is missing along with the outer parts of the arms including their pierced tabs. The present ends of the arms are very smooth and clearly the result of chopping. Before both a transverse engraved groove was probably intended to mark out the point beyond which the chopping should executed. Extant length 66.7mm. Second half 15th century.
