A worn and corroded Early Medieval cast copper alloy stirrup mount, c. 1025-1100 AD. The mount has an overall symmetrical tongue shape. At one end it is square and bends away from the front face at 90 degrees to form a narrowed perpendicular flange (Type A Flange). An Early Medieval to Medieval copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount belonging to Williams Class A. The incised pentagonal frame contains a faint intertwined beast above which is a pair of opposed spirals and a union knot. The mount has a lobed apex, three rivet holes and a stepped flange. There are traces of inlaid niello on all the incised lines. The mount is similar to Williams Class A, Type 15 (also see no. 503 in Williams 1997).

A Late Saxon copper alloy stirrup-strap mount of Williams' Class C, Group 1 (1997, 100). Sub-triangular, the lower side edges are straight, with three lobes decreasing in size towards the apex on each upper edge and a straight base. It is broken across the apex loop and one corner is missing, broken across one of the fixing holes. There is an additional piercing below the apex loop, and a small hole has been added next to the lower broken edge to allow the mount to be secured after it was damaged. Late Saxon copper alloy stirrup-strap mount. There is no flange. Perforation at the apex the upper edge of which is scalloped. The face is decorated with a ribbon-like beast, perhaps a dragon, inlaid with niello which now stands proud of the decayed surface. There are two copper alloy rivets at the base which secure a corroded iron bar to the reverse of the mount. Width 36mm. Height 42.5mm. Incomplete and abraded Late Saxon copper alloy stirrup-strap mount with the apex missing. There is no basal flange. Traces of rust lie behind one of the two lower fixing holes. Inlaid off-white material, presumably niello, stands proud of the surface. A crude whiskered animal mask within a frame is depicted. A complete cast copper-alloy early medieval stirrup strap mount of Williams Class A, Type 1. The pentagonal form mount is quite worn and smooth but some of the linear design engraved with niello is still visible. The apex of the mount has a loop and there are two lower fixing holes at the base. The reverse has a right angle flange and traces of iron corrosion around the back of the fixing holes and apex loop.
