A complete late early-medieval (c. 1000-1100) copper alloy Williams Class A Type 8 stirrup strap mount, with a common right angle flange and traces of niello with white wire inlay decoration. The apex is slightly bent backwards (old damage).
The mount is a sub-triangular plate rising to an apex, with small vertical projections at the corner of the base. To the reverse of the base a rectangular angled flange projects backwards at c. 90 degrees to the plane. The decorated face consists of a large zoomorphic head at the apex with looping and bifurcating tendrils on each side, below …

An Early Medieval to Medieval copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount belonging to Williams Class A. The incised pentagonal frame contains a faint intertwined beast above which is a pair of opposed spirals and a union knot. The mount has a lobed apex, three rivet holes and a stepped flange. There are traces of inlaid niello on all the incised lines. The mount is similar to Williams Class A, Type 15 (also see no. 503 in Williams 1997).
