An incomplete copper alloy stirrup strap mount with some niello decoration, dating to the Early Medieval period, c. AD 1000-1100. The object comprises the triangular plate of the strap mount. There are areas of decay which indicate the presence of two rivets, and possibly a third. Two rivets are placed as a pair, forming part of the heads of two beasts which d dominate its decorative scheme. The third rivet is located between the beast's extended rear paws. A late early-medieval stirrup-strap mount of Williams's Class A Type 10B. Made of cast copper alloy, it is sub-triangular in shape. It has a common right angle flange, with the corroded remains of two iron rivets in place. This corrosion has slightly affected the front of the mount. The apex loop is damaged and broken through. The mount is decorated by engraving and openwork and the pattern appears to be an interlaced zoomorphic design. It is worn, so the creature depicted is difficult to make out clearly.
