An incomplete Roman Colchester derivative brooch of Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4.g, flat wing ends type), dating to AD 160-200. The brooch is largely intact although the catchplate is damaged and the pin incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical in plan with pierced wing/end caps intact. A cast copper alloy annular brooch of Medieval date. The frame is 39mm in diameter with a circular cross section, 4mm in diameter, and a constriction for a now lost pin. The frame has broken into three fragments. The surface has a complex decorative scheme of crossed strapwork inlaid with nielo and with punched annulets between. The decoration is mostly to one side suggesting that the object is a brooch meant to be worn with the decoration displayed.

The top side is decorated with a series of closely packed shallow transverse grooves that are infilled with niello creating a striped pattern. There is a constriction for the pin in one corner.
